Language Communities (Lesson 435)

On these pages, the author stressed the importance of the language community. On the one hand, a language learning need to communicate with real person. On the other hand, the communicating would help to person learn the language the other way around. Language is a compositive tool, include sounds, feelings, rhythms, textures, and colours. These would to be reflected in the communication. You only knew some “cold” words and grammar when you are learning a textbook. And you will feel bored esaily. In the end, you probably give up. As I mentions above, human beings always like vivid things. For me, joining a language community is a chance to increase my interest of learning English. After all, anything is more fun than remember words and grammar from the textbook .

Apprently, if you try to learn a language without joining a language community, it makes learning the language harder. I learned the English just from the texture before. The result is clear, my broken grammar and not much vocabulary. Oh, it’s a disaster.

Actually, I certainly know the advantage of the language community. But it’s no doubt that joining a foreign language community is difficult in country. Firstly, everyone is busy whatever in daily life or works in morden life, whatever you are a native person or a foreign person. Secondly, maybe there are no foreigners around you. Thirdly, even through there are some foreigners around you, but they are not very familiar with you. And maybe you are afraid of bother them. Over time, you even forgot the communication in a foreign language.

Fortunately, thanks to the spread strength of the internet, I can link to the world. Now, I attended a English study group in wechat. This group includes many learning English people of all kinds jobs. We lived chat in wechat. It’s convenience and effective. Now I arranged to facetime with my English coach in wechat twice a week. So all in all, I tried to join a language community in Internet.

After joining the English group in wechat, I would communicate with other English learners. Whatever the level of English, we can communicate to each other. We comunicate in English in the wechat group. In addition, sometimes one person could share some English learning videos or apps in group. But as a tool, English should be used for face-to-face communication. So I think we’d better joining a English community in real life, because it can really give real-time feedback.
