Language is a tool

This is the core idea about the “The Third Ear”. Being a language learner over twenty years from school, I had been learnt English as a subject not as a tool. So that I always felt this is hard, even impossible to get this language fluency. I felt it was boring and couldn’t find any reasons to support me get it done perfectly. Now, I know that this is all because I didn’t take the language as a tool.

Just like our mother tongue, we use the language to get everything done, to get our needs met. During the process of using the langue, we can feel it was interesting.

Because we need to interact with people, try to demonstrate all repertoires we have. When we achieve what we want, then the proud of feelings would come out and that would satisfy ourselves. As to learn other subjects such as history and literature, we don’t need to use it in our daily life. It’s would not bring us any inconveniences if we couldn’t learn it well. Those are academic subjects for study without reasons to must use. So take the language as a subject is a mistake for all of the language learners.

In our daily life, we use the language to satisfy anything we want. Even a mute would need reply on gestures as a language to communicate with people. Languages play an important role in our life. How to learn the 2nd language well? I think the answer is provided above. Yes… Take it as your first language. That’s means take is as you mother tongue. When you recall your growing process, or observe your kids, you can find how you or your kids learn the language. Use the language to help you communicate, do anything you want, it doesn’t matter your language skills is good or not. Just use it! Then get feedback from others to make sure you get the response you want. If not, just try to revise it further. The fluency would come from day by day practice until you get it.

One Response so far.
