New word ~ “ smatter “

I learned a new word -“ smatter “from the Chapter 15 Of “The Third Ear” recently .

Original sentence:
He talked about the NFL, little pieces of gossip related to his home town, smattering his speech with American colloquialisms.

“ smatter ” means
“ to speak with only slight knowledge ”or “a slight superficial knowledge of subject.”

I try to practice making up sentences :
1. She smattered on about her vacation.
2. Mark has only a smattering of philosophy.
3. He has only got a smattering of experience with accounting.
