Rice is still that rice

The apprentice asked Master for advice: “Master, some people say that I am a genius, and some people say that I am a fool, how do you think?”

“How do you think about yourself?” Master asked, and the apprentice looked blank.

Master said: “For example, a catty of rice, in the eyes of the cake master is clay oven rolls, in the eyes of the wine merchants is wine, in the eyes of the beggar is a life-saving meal. Rice is still that rice.”

The apprentice suddenly saw the light.
