I learned a new word -“at face value“from the Chapter 13 Of “The Third Ear” today.
Original sentence:
In the ‘as if ‘game, you consciously decide to accept at face value all of the ideas and assumptions held by the group of people you are learning from.
“at face value“ means “ judging only from the surface“.
I try to practice making up sentences.
1. At face value, nobody believed that movie would achieve great success.
2. We should not judge him only at face value, which is unfair to him.
3. This story seems to make sense at face value, but after verification it has a logical error.
Wow, you are really flying here! 🙂
Sincerely thank Kung Fu English!:)
