I like to talk to westerners.I’m always curious about them, and want to communicate with them.I’d like to find something different between us.In my memory,I talked to an American girl who was attending my University—Xi’an Electronic Technology University before 13 years ago, or thereabouts.If I didn’t miscommunicate, she came from a farm of American.I couldn’t remember how we got to meet each other,and only recall something we talk about and some feeling that I was getting.

My English-learning just like most Chinese Students.We recited words, their meanings,a number of solid phrases and grammar.Luckily,I had the ability to recite things, those I even didn’t understand. So my English exam results were not that bad, and I passed CET6 with a score of 425,what some of my classmates were jealous with.This score was not high, and only just passed the scoreline.When I came across the American girl with long gold hair down to her shoulders,I had the audacity to talk to her.We talked a lot of things about our home and religions.Although my accent was better than most of my classmates, she often even didn’t know the words that I was speaking.From then on,I got to know that even passed the exam of a relative high level of English exam,I still couldn’t communicate with foreigners at a basic level as well as most of Chinese students.How could this be?At that time,I didn’t realize there is something wrong in our language classroom.I just had the bad belief that maybe English-learning is just that way.

Now I want to ask why we need to learn English so hard so many years for this sort of result. Did more,got less.If most of what we did were meaningless, why we still go on it.The purpose of learning a foreign language is to communicate with foreign people, however,our purpose seems to be opposite.We want to communicate,acctually,our methods of learning are driving us to recite a dictionary or grammar book.Words,phrases,and grammar are simply a little part of the language, and mastering all of them can’t make us even communicate basics.

Maybe we just only want to do some simple communications.But we failed.Maybe we just need to pick up some daily conversations to meet the needs.When we get some basics, then we can learn more.
