Mental Maps of the World (page 60-62)

When human come to the world, we have nothing in our brain. The world is ready for us, but everything is new.We have many sensory built in our body.  Seeing, smelling, listening, tasting, touching, and feeling. All of these things are interconnected between each other. It just like a spider web, complicated but had its regular rule to store in our brain. We call it mental map. As we grow up, more and more life experience accumulated. We start to hear sounds and learnt to make up the sound we hear. It also helps to connect these sounds to our internal maps. At the same time, we can store more and more information and sound symbol.

Our brain store information by connecting the relative feeling, sensory, smelling together which form clusters. And lots of clusters are interconnected each other with their relationships. At the same time, we also use language to help us remember the things. Languages itself are also a spider web, just like to mental map with sounds, meaning, and written symbol connector together. With the language, we can label the specific things by specific audibols and written symbols. That is what we need to do for language learning. When we hear sounds, our brain will connect the sounds to the things, and we base on our life experience to make the relationship between the clusters of the mental map. If we got some ideas in our mind, we also make up the audibols the represent our thoughts. So listening and speaking are both the primary tasks for language learning. Reading and Writing are the 2nd to learn for assisting us when we have accents problems for recognizing audibols.
