New word ~” dilemma “

I learned a new word -“dilemma “from the Chapter 13 Of “The Third Ear”recently.

Original sentence:
After several weeks I came out of my funk, but I hadn’t yet resolved my dilemma.

“ dilemma“ means “ in a situation that is difficult to choose “.

I try to practice making up sentences.

1. He faces the dilemma of going abroad for further study or marriage.
2. The boss is clearly in a dilemma about how to tackle the crisis.
3. He is looking for ways to get rid of the dilemma.

Hi Alice, these are great sentences!

On No. 3, I have a slightly different view. This is my personal opinion only, but I thought it worth sharing with you. I think for No. 3 I would say “He is looking for ways to get out of the dilemma”. If we say “get rid of the dilemma”, it’s sort of smaller than us, and something that we are holding. At least, that’s the feeling that I get from “get rid of”.

If we say “get out of the dilemma”, it’s something that is bigger than us (because we’re inside it 🙂 ) .

    Which feels better for you?

      Thanks for your detailed explanation.:)
After comparing the meanings of “get rid of” and “get out of”, I can understand the subtle differences between the two.
