New word ~ “ mesmerise “

I learned a new word -“mesmerise“from the Chapter 14 Of “The Third Ear” recently .

Original sentence:
I stood, mesmerised , through the entire performance.

“mesmerise“ means “ to have someone’s attention completely “

I try to practice making up sentences.
1. We were completely mesmerised by the performance.
2. She was mesmerised by his wonderful speech.
3. I was mesmerised by the colorful fishes and corals in the deep sea.

Great word that 🙂 Mesmerise. It also means “hypnotised”. I believe the origin of the word is a person’s name – a Mr. Mesmer, who was a great hypnotist.

I found this message on the website http://blog.sina.cn/dpool/blog/s/blog_4b2e944f0102x6zc.html
“ Mesmerize, the word comes from the 18th century Austrian Mesmer, a doctor who is proficient in hypnotism. At that time, this skill was regarded as witchcraft, and he was therefore considered a liar. Later, people used his name to express the verb “hypnotize; fascinated.” Example: He was mesmerized by her beauty and charm.”
