The Adult Advantage  

 The children can learn a language faster than their parents is a myth. If I didn’t approach Kungfu English, maybe I still consider this is true till now. Because I have no ideas to convince myself that adults still have the ability to learn a foreign language well. Most of my friend can’t speak English well, even they attended the English class for a period of time. When I told them that I just only learn kungfu English more than 1 year, and I feel I had improved a lot. They still think that this is a special case. To their response, I would say “why don’t you have a try “.

   I believe motivation is the key points for adult to learn any things in their life. When we grow up from a kid to be an adult, what we lost is not a certain ability but the enthusiasm and curiosity to the world. We didn’t like the children to keep them anymore, then make adult lose the motivation to learn new things in their life. If we don’t have motivation, we could not insist ourselves to learn one thing for a period of time. This is the most important reason that I think why adult can’t learn a foreign language well.

   In the other hand, people are pursuing fast result for anything they do in this fast and shifting world. We are facing various things and information in our daily life, and hope we can get a quick response for anything we did. Just like to lose weight, it need to spend a period of time and use the correct ways to achieve your goal. However, many people they don’t have enough patient and adopt correct ways to make it happen. Even they try for a period of time, but finally they still gave up. The same concepts are equally applied to the language learning. It really need patience and insistence to build the core of the new language. Certainly, it’s helpful with the appropriate ways to accelerate the process for building the core.  Some of them are included in “the adult advantage”.

   Compare the difference between the adult and children when they are learning a new thing, we can find that adult really have more tools and skills can help to learn new things well. Adults can write, and read, and also have many concepts in their mind. What they need to do is finding out motivations and setting a goal, then spend a couple of times with proper approaches to success. It’s sound not so hard, right?

   In the other hand, children don’t have such tools and skills. They only rely on their parents, teachers and friends to build their concepts and skills. I believe they are doing these activities in their brain even when they are dreaming in the night. That’s all of their life.

   That’s true as the author said. Adults have a lot things need to deal with in their daily life. Go for the work in the daytime, and back home to deal with their kids…, besides we still have to find some time to do exercise. This is really hard for adults to have a free time slot to learn the new language. So using the pieces of time is very important and useful. At least that works for me.

   The adult have a lot advantages to learn things, what we need is the correct approaches to accelerate our learning process before we giving up. When we start to build the core and find we have improved day by day, we will get more power to keep learning. Actions speak louder than words. Just do it and get started!
