Third Ear Pages 18-19 Writing My Opinions

The author wrote about two quite different reactions of people when they were told about the ability to learn a foreign language easily and quickly. Some thought that it was not possible. Others rose the idea in their mind that those people who can learn a foreign language quickly and easily must be talented which is not normal and most people did not have such a talent.
The author’s idea is that those called talents are simply mental, enotional, physical and practical strategies which those successful people used to be successful. His idea is formed from the experience of his own and those successfully  people he has talked to. These such talents can be applied to any area to achieve a certain target including language learning.
The author gave an example about a tennis coach. This coach is the writer of the book “The Inner Games”. He even taught an aged over-weighted woman to play tennis in twenty minutes. The whole process was captured on film. This example showed  how important and effective it is to do things with appropriate  methods.
The author thinks that the apporiate methods and the mental, emotional, physical and practical strategies can be learned. Using a metaphore, they can be injected into you. You should learn these strategies, methods and approaches.  If you master the ‘talent’, then you can be successful in any area.
The author said these strategies, approaches and methods were covered in this book. I am really looking forward to it. I hope these talents will be injected  into myself.
The author ranked the way in which you were exposed to a second language as the first important thing to learning the language and what you think about the second language to be the second most important thing.
In this book, the author used a lot of examples about learning Asian languages because of the major differences between Asian and non-Asian languages and in the western world, Asian languages are perceived as amongst the hardest to learn. Obviously the targer readers of this book are Westerners. My mother tongue is Chinese which is one kind of Asian language. I do not know much about other Asian languages. I have studied Japanese. I don’t think it is easy to learn. I think Chinese and Japanese are very different. They are quite different in their structure and grammar. So I think when we talk about how hard or easy it is to learn a language, geographic location is the least matter. Whether you have the appropriate methods, It mattes. So matter how difficult a language is, if you have the appropriate methods, then learning can be easy.
I hope after I have read this book, I will master the language learning startegies and have the apporiate mothods. I hope I will master English in a not far future.

One Response so far.
