Why Not Ask Why?

Ask Why is actually a self-responding when we meet something new for the first time, and we tend to figure is that make sense with our past experience. However, not all of everything has an answer to explain why in some ways. Does it important to ask why when learning a new skill? For instance, when we learn how to drive a car, we always follow the coach’s instruction step by step. Ultimately we learn how to drive, but it’s still hard to explain why we have to do it that way. Absolutely we get this skill in that way with the best tips coach taught us.

We said language learning is also one kind of skills, that means we can learn it in some ways. So ask why in not a necessary way to learn it, we just only to grasp some tips to accelerate our learning to achieve our goal. I believe even native speakers would know everything he/she said. They well used each word or phrase, even some metaphors that others people understood. When you grasp how to use some words, you can back to find why that is good. But if you don’t, you still can learn it. That doesn’t conflict each other.

In Chinese, we say he or her or it all in the same word, but that doesn’t make sense in English. We say much, many, a lot to describe any things whatever it is countable or not. We say good, nice, well to indicate a positive thing with the same Chinese word. As an English learner, I couldn’t understand why it should have so many descriptors to indicate the same meaning. An native English speaker may also think why Chinese only have one word to describe different types of description for positive things. Actually, ask why frequently may make us exhausted when we are learning. Focus on how and what, and get a response to make sure we use it correctly is more interesting.

Social convention is a reasonable explanation to stop us asking why again and again. It just like rule when playing a game. People living in the same place have similar life experiences, and that may specific word to describe specific things. I think this make sense to give this specific word into social convention as a rule in that place. If you don’t know why, that’ ok. You just only know how to use that word to communicate with people, and people get what you mean. That’s enough!

Hi, thanks for your comments and that really encouraged me!
As you said, I try to use the words I learned in the past. That could let me remember those words.
Just like the authors said, used it or lose it. ^^
Be a language learner, I am trying to follow each step the course introduced.
Keep learning, no stop. I believe we all can get fluency in language learning one day!
