Self-talk and performance (Lesson 415)
The literal meaning of Self-talk is talk to myself, of course, you can talk about positive or negative.

As I said above, I think self-talk has two types affect performance. In short, there are good or bad talking. For example, here are the good ones, “I’m good at it”, “I like to do it” “I can do it”. On the contrary, here are the bad ones, “I’m loser” “I’m failed again” “I’m soo fool” and so on. As the golfer’s example in the book, the self-talk that Sebastian talk to himself sometines were good, sometimes were bad. Then this led directly to his golf scores. The author coached Sebastian to not distract his focus on bad things that “I was behind” “I’m losing” “I’m dead!”.

As my viewpoint, good self-talk is like good people encouraging you, and they can give you confidence. A lot of the time, there are the differences whether you have confidence or not. Because a person sometimes in trouble in the process of learning a new skill, like Sebastian was behind of the golf competition. At that time, if you distracted or discouraged, you are probably really failing. It’s so heart-broken, because maybe victory is the next step.

Speaking of language learning, there are some ways similarly to playing golf. Firstly, learner should be learn to copying, like some tones, the using methods of the words and phrases. Then learner can communicate on a daily basis. It’s important to practice.
In the process, learner probably have some trouble. Sometimes you could feel embarrassed. At that time, you should talk to yourself, and encourage yourself that you are so good, you are speaking so much words ,goodjob. Secondly, through hundredd of practice, you would change the actions to some unconscious customs, until you learn the language.

Be honest, learning any new skill always a challenge for me. So learning a language is no exception. For example, I ‘m writing the essay in the morning, even I don’t have a breakfast now. Actually, I often feel discourange about English learning. Because I would to write more feeling in essay when I found that I could’t write. There are many reasons, such as the a few words or phreases, lacking of the grammar. Sometimes it just can’t be expressed. Then I would feel so bad. Like the amatuer golfer Sebastian of the book, a little voice would saying, you are losing…At this time, I think I should change into some good self-talk, hint myself, encourange myself, “hey, you are getting a little better everyday, don’t be discouraged!”
